“The right of an individual to practise their religion and live out their beliefs is one of the most fundamental rights a person can have, but so is the right not to be turned away by a hotel just because you are gay.”
The most ridiculous statement ever! The latter satement in this sentence completely nullifies the first!
We are in the early stages of seeing Christians being driven out of the commerical world and unable to run a business.
The legal system in Great Britain is in a complete shambles! On one hand it says Christian Hoteliers cannot deny homosexual couples the right to share a room but on the other hand it is recognizing Sharia Law for those who are Muslims and forcing non-Muslims to give respect to certain aspects of Sharia Law so as not to insult Muslims.
Now what would happen it a devout Muslim couple ran a hotel and refused to allow a Homosexual couple to share a room?
This is clear inequity in the law! Discrimination directed squarely at Christians!
Devout Christian hotel owners who refused to allow a gay couple to share a double room acted unlawfully, a judge at Bristol county court ruled today.
Martyn Hall and Steven Preddy, who are civil partners, won their landmark claim for discrimination in a case funded and supported by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).
The ruling, one of the first made under the Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007, is likely to provide those in partnerships with greater protection from discrimination.
The owners of the Chymorvah private hotel in Cornwall, Peter and Hazel Bull, do not allow couples who are not married to share double rooms because they do not believe in sex before marriage.
The Bulls asserted that their refusal to accommodate civil partners in a double room was not to do with sexual orientation but “everything to do with sex”. The restriction, the owners said, applied equally to heterosexual couples who are not married.
In his ruling, Judge Andrew Rutherford said the hotel had directly discriminated against the couple on the grounds of their sexual orientation and awarded them compensation of £1,800 each.
The judge said the right of the defendants to manifest their religion is not absolute and “can be limited to protect the rights and freedoms of the claimants”.
He described the sexual orientation regulations as a “necessary and proportionate intervention by the state to protect the rights of others”.
John Wadham, the legal director of the EHRC, said: “The right of an individual to practise their religion and live out their beliefs is one of the most fundamental rights a person can have, but so is the right not to be turned away by a hotel just because you are gay.
“The law works both ways. Hotel owners would similarly not be able to turn away people whose religious beliefs they disagreed with.
“When Mr and Mrs Bull chose to open their home as a hotel, their private home became a commercial enterprise. This decision means that community standards, not private ones, must be upheld.”
Preddy and Hall said they were pleased with the outcome of the case: “When we booked this hotel we just wanted to do something that thousands of other couples do every weekend – take a relaxing weekend break away.
“We checked that the hotel would allow us to bring our dog, but it didn’t even cross our minds that in 2008 we would have to check whether we would be welcome ourselves.
“We’re really pleased that the judge has confirmed what we already know – that in these circumstances our civil partnership has the same status in law as a marriage between a man and a woman, and that regardless of each person’s religious beliefs, no one is above the law.”
It has been said the law is a Donkey, there are two principles which are in conflict with each other, the right of gay couples; and the right of Christians to live out their beliefs without persecution. The latter has been denied by the law of the land. It would have been O.K to have refused an unmarried couple a double room a decade ago.
Truth is unchanging! the final court of appeal is the “Word of God” (The Bible) homosexuality is firmly condemned in the scriptures.
For the state to put itself above God is a serious matter. God has ordained the authorities (of whatever persuasion)to govern, and they must be obeyed in everything except when obedience to a higher authority is at stake.
Even now the government must reconsider ammending the “Sexual oriential legislation” otherwise Christian businesses will have to close, those who run them will end up in prison. Ernie Bartlett
Christians are being targetted for persecution by these people in order for them to get financial gain.
The hotel couple are being hounded by the press and the judicial system as they have been careful to stand up for their beliefs. The Human Rights Commission protects us against persecution and gives us guarantee of the freedom of conscience and religious belief, but here we have a devout Christian couple, running a family business in the way they have a right to and standing up for that right by not allowing none married couples to have sex under their roof and they are dragged into court and have to pay these gay men money, just because they refused them a bed. These men did this on purpose. We have a higher law: the Law of God and this is the flawed law of man. The law here is not correct; as these people have said they cannot have this policy in their own home and the law says they have a right to do what they believe. But then the law says that gay rights are better than the rights of Christians. This is not equality; it is persecution against Christians.
We should march on London and make our voice heard and support this couple who have been put through hell by the gay community on purpose. We should have this law removed and our rights restored. The law of God is above the law of man. I am praying for this nice couple. God bless.
