A coalition of 12 Roman Catholic organizations in the U.S. is starting an initiative that encourages church members to reduce energy use and presses lawmakers to pass climate-change legislation.
The Catholic Coalition on Climate Change, which includes the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic Charities USA, is heading the campaign to help reduce global warming. The effort will encourage the nation’s 65 million Catholics to reflect on church teachings about environmental stewardship and reach out to elected officials, according to the group.
“We are hopeful that as Catholics begin to understand the moral implications of climate change that they will feel compelled to send this message to their local, state and federal legislators,” said Dan Misleh, executive director of the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change, in an interview today. . . . . . .
