The Dangers of The Gospel of Accomodation
A sermon given by David Wilkerson at an Assemblies of God headquarters chapel service.
I am not coming to you as a pastor but with a prophetic word. God so shook me recently with this message that I should bring it somewhere, sometime in Springfield. This morning the Lord, by His Spirit, spoke to my heart that this is the time. He has called me to be one of His watchmen, and I have wept over this and prayed that He will help me deliver the message in a spirit of love. This is not a chastisement but a warning for the Assemblies of God.
A New Gospel
Accommodate means to adapt, to make suitable and acceptable, to make convenient. A gospel of accommodation is creeping into the United States. It’s an American cultural invention to appease the lifestyle of luxury and pleasure. Primarily a Caucasian, suburban gospel, it’s also in our major cities and is sweeping the nation, influencing ministers of every denomination, and giving birth to megachurches with thousands who come to hear a nonconfronting message. It’s an adaptable gospel that is spoon-fed through humorous skits, drama, and short, nonabrasive sermonettes on how to cope—called a seeker-friendly or sinner-friendly gospel.
To begin with, those terms are unscriptural. The gospel of Jesus Christ has always been confronting—there is no such thing as a friendly gospel but a friendly grace.
This new gospel is being propagated by bright, young, talented ministers. They have come upon a formula which states you can go into any town or city; and if you have the right formula, within a short time you can raise a megachurch.
If you are a young man and have certain skills, you find those skills and a part of the city that would best suit you. You move into that area, poll it, and find out what the nonchurchgoers want:
“You don’t like choirs. Well, would you go to a church that didn’t have a choir?” Yes.
“You don’t like to wear suits. Would you go where it’s informal?” Yes.
Then you go to your computer and design a gospel that will not confront but will shoot out the desires and the needs of the people. After you have gathered a handful of people, you keep interviewing them to find out what they want; then you design your message to help people cope with their needs. The program you design is intended to make the church comfortable and friendly for all sinners who wish to attend.
This gospel is fast becoming the most prosperous and flourishing of all religious movements. Thousands attend these churches. The pastor is the CEO, and it becomes a business. They make no bones about it: They are following Madison Avenue tactics and can make a success of it. Their formula for quick church growth is cleverly packaged and is being sold especially to young ministers—those who want to be a part of the big boys and what’s happening on a fast track. They want it to happen quickly.
Paul’s Warning
Paul warned of the coming of another gospel and another Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:4). He warned the church that it’s really not another gospel but a perversion of the true gospel of Jesus Christ. If you hear any other gospel, he said, let that preacher be accursed. In other words, no matter how pleasant, how pious, or how sincere, if the message is not the death of sin through the cross of Jesus Christ, let it be accursed.
I tremble when I read in the Scriptures that in the last days Satan is going to come right into the church posing as an angel of light. He’s going to take ministers who, at one time, had the touch of God, and he’s going to transform them into angels of light to become his tool of deception. That’s frightening. It causes me to fall on my face before God for such false, deceitful workers transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. No marvel, for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore, it’s no great thing if ministers also are transformed as the ministers of righteousness whose end shall be according to their works.
Paul said they are going to glory in the flesh, in their bigness, their numbers, their influence, and their contemporariness. They will boast they are contemporary, that there is a gospel that is out of style that doesn’t reach human need anymore. They will glory in the world’s acceptance. Jesus warned, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” (Matthew 7:15). The context of that warning was: “Straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth to life, and few there be that find it” (verse 14).
His warning was to beware of the wolves who are going to say it’s really not that narrow and straight—they are going to come posing as submissive sheep. Jesus put His finger on the cause: ambition—ambitious ravening wolves. In the Greek it means “starved for recognition and quick gratification, quick growth.”
Jesus left no doubt about His meaning. For example, He was addressing a struggling pastor who has worked for years and hasn’t seen the kind of growth he wants to see. A young man with an accommodating gospel moves into town and and within a very short time has a megachurch. People are flocking there because there is entertainment; it’s a gospel of fun. I’ve been in some of them. It’s the gospel of entertainment that has no conviction whatsoever. There is very little in their gospel that speaks to sinners of repentance, brokenness, and cross-bearing. A Christ is preached, Jesus’ name is mentioned, but Paul said their’s is another gospel, another Jesus.
Paul warned that if you are caught in this trap, if you want that hook of entertainment, that hook of sudden growth, this is the hook: The enemy will put in your path a teaching.
I have two preacher sons. One of them confessed to me, “Dad, I was that close to being sucked in because I fasted and prayed and didn’t see the growth I wanted to see, and I saw these others grow. That hook was there, and I almost bought it.”
That is something this Movement and every movement is going to have to look at and deal with: It is possible, through unholy ambition, to be transformed from a man of God, who has been seeking God and getting a word from heaven, to an unholy ambition and a tool of Satan. Let every pastor heed this warning: The moment you begin to consider the “competition,” seeds of accommodation will be planted in your heart. Suddenly, Satan will put in your path a wolf in sheep’s clothing—a man who will try to seduce you into ungodly ambition and achieving church growth at any cost. Yet the truth is, it could cost you your soul.
The Right Formula
If you find the right formula, according to the accommodation gospel, you can succeed in any field of endeavor.
An editorial in the New York Times (March 1, 1998) was entitled, How To Manufacture a Best-Seller. It told the story of John Baldwin, a 53-year-old carpenter and a would-be writer, who had struggled for years to make a living from writing. He determined to become famous and rich overnight by writing a best-selling medical thriller. He studied five or six best thrillers. After 7 years’ research he found 10 steps to producing a best-selling medical novel. He honed it with some Hollywood writers and agents, and here is the 10-step formula he used:
- The hero is an expert.
- The villain is an expert.
- You must watch all the villain’s activities over his shoulder.
- The hero has a team of experts behind him, working in various fields.
- Two or more on the team must fall in love.
- Two or more on the team must die.
- The villain must turn his attention from his initial goal to the team.
- The villain and the hero must live to do battle again in the sequel.
- All deaths must proceed from the individual to the group.
- If the story bogs down, just kill somebody.
John Baldwin had the formula but no story, so he read of research by John Marr who was studying the epidemiological causes of the 10 plagues, hoping to explain their causes scientifically. The two men formed a partnership, and using Baldwin’s 10–step formula, together wrote a 640 page manuscript called The Eleventh Plague. Harper Collins bought it for almost $2 million.
Baldwin, who has no passion for writing, said, “If I get the formula, I’m going to be a multimillionaire and famous.” Well, he’s going to make another $3 million on the movie rights, and he’s laughing all the way to the bank. His philosophy: “If you have the right formula, you can be a success at anything.”
You see, this is the gospel of accommodation—the formula. You get the formula, you get what people want, and you can be a success. I am here to tell you that a formula-based, accommodating gospel is contrary to everything in the Scriptures.
God’s Method
Certain men of God met at Antioch to send out men to preach the gospel and establish churches (Acts 13). Here is God’s method:
1. They ministered to the Lord and fasted. This was their planning session—worshiping, fasting, waiting on the Lord, and calling for direction from the Holy Ghost. They did not move until the Holy Ghost spoke. There were no formulas, no surveys, no door-to-door asking people what they wanted and then serving it to them.
2. They prayed—no strategizing, no network, and not one step until the Holy Ghost spoke His mind. Then and only then did they lay hands upon them, anoint them, and send them out in the power and demonstration of the Holy Ghost.
Paul lived his whole religious life on religious formulas, and he said they didn’t work. He gave up on formulas and said, “I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2). Paul boasted unashamedly, “We preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness” (1 Corinthians 1:23). He was saying, “Gentlemen (he was talking to his peers), they want us to accommodate. The Jews are looking for signs in our gospel. The Greeks want the wisdom. They want to know how to cope, but I’m not compromising. There’s only one message. Our gospel has been and will be the Cross and its demands as well as its victories. As for me, I’m determined to preach nothing among you but Christ and Him crucified.”
What the Gospel of Accommodation Does (1)
I see three things in the gospel of accommodation:
1. It is the accommodation of man’s love for pleasure.
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers…of pleasures more than lovers of God” (2 Timothy 3:1–4). The Greek for pleasure is “sensuous, lustful, voluptuous, exciting, gratifying, sensual pleasure.” If you move toward this gospel of accommodation, you are going to have to accommodate the people’s lust because they are not going to give up their love for excitement. They’ve made gods of sports, pleasure, and lust. Unless that is confronted by the gospel of Jesus Christ, unless there is a truth that comes forth, you have to accommodate this lust that is in the American lifestyle.
I was shocked by an article in the New York Times.1 Philip Wogaman, President Clinton’s pastor, said, “Sexual misconduct does not automatically render a leader immoral. Morality should also be judged by indicators like courage, concern for the poor, fostering world peace, running the economy responsibly, and furthering racial equality. Heterosexuality and homosexuality are merely cultural expressions.” In other words, Mr. Clinton has been told that he has enough good indicators to overrule another that would be immoral in his life.
God said that men who preach doctrines like these resist the truth; they are men of corrupt minds counterfeiting the faith.
In disbelief I watched a televised Sunday night service of a seeker-friendly church—seeker-friendly by its own admission. To a packed church where thousands attend, the pastor said, “This is fun night, a David Letterman night.” The youth pastor came out and did his monologue as David Letterman. Then they showed 10 of the most boring things teenagers do during preaching. Three of the 10 were throwing spitballs, yawning, and picking their noses. The crowd went crazy. After the service, the pastor brazenly announced, “We’re not here to offend people, but to make church comfortable for everyone.” I wept.
I ask you, how long do you think that audience would stay in church if the pastor was gripped by the Holy Ghost, convicted for “entertaining” people toward hell, and suddenly preached a message entitled, “Be sure your sins will find you out”? How long would people keep coming back if a gospel of holy living and separation from the world was preached? Two things would happen: (1) Those who are misguided, hungry, and didn’t know any better would weep and run to the altar. (2) Those who are judiciously blinded by their pleasures in madness would flee from the church and never come again. The church doors would close.
I keep this foremost in my mind and before my eyes, because every minister of the gospel one day has to face it when he stands before the Lord. He will say, “Son of man, I made thee a watchman. You were to hear the words of My mouth and give them warnings from Me. You were to tell the wicked, ‘Thou shalt surely die.’ And you gave them no warning nor spoke to warn the wicked to turn from their wicked ways to save their lives. These same wicked men died in their sins, but their blood I’ll require at your hands.”
What the Gospel of Accommodation Does (2)
2. This gospel of accommodation accommodates all man’s aversion to self-denial.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is one of self-denial. Jesus said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24). Self-denial is not something you give. It’s someone you give up—the giving up of yourself, giving up everything you are. It’s a living sacrifice to the Lord Jesus Christ to present your body a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. God has every right to say to His church, “If you expect to give Me your body, your resurrected body, all through eternity, I have every right—it’s only reasonable of Me and your reasonable service—to ask your body why you’re here on earth. I want every part of you. I want you to be spiritually minded. I want to possess you.”
The gospel we preach must bring people under the total possession of the Lord Jesus Christ. Otherwise, it’s a gospel of accommodation.
The seeker-friendly gospel accommodates the body. The human body belongs to Him. What we see in America is a neognosticism where you take your physical body on one side and do as you please as long as your spirit is right with God. This is coming even out of the White House, this dividing of personality. No, we are one personality, and it all belongs to Jesus Christ. This neognosticism is destroying the faith of many throughout the nation.
What the Gospel of Accommodation Does (3)
3. There is an accommodation of man’s offense to the gospel.
The Scriptures state, “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumblingstone and rock of offense.” Paul spoke of the offense of the Cross. This is the heart of God’s anger. We’re not called to the Cross but to go through the Cross—to experience the same thing Jesus did, not only coming to the Cross but dying and going into the grave with Jesus Christ and then being raised from the dead to a newness of life.
It’s cruel, pastor, to lead sinners to the Cross, tell them they are forgiven by faith, and then allow them to go back to their habits and lusts of the flesh, unchanged and still in the devil’s shackles. If the preaching of grace doesn’t have as its goal the producing of a walk of righteousness, then it’s another gospel, another Jesus.
I listened in horror to a man, who attended one of the largest seeker-friendly churches, being interviewed by CBS. He said, “I come to this church because I’m comfortable. I’m never made to feel uneasy. I bring my Jewish friends and my business friends, and I know nothing will ever be said that will offend them. The best part of it is, the whole thing only lasts an hour.”
Take it from me: You can get your big church and be one of the big boys, but it’s going to cost you your soul if you preach with a focus only on earthly things, rather than on the things of God.
I’ve lived in New York City 35 years. We have 103 nationalities from all walks of life—from the poorest to the richest. Probably 300 or more from the United Nations live there. But I look over a congregation (so does my dear friend, Jim Cymbala, in Brooklyn) and see men who have just walked in from the porno shops and are wild animals. I see a businessman friend who was CEO of a multimillion–dollar company, but he started snorting coke, lost everything, and is now a bum on the street. He sits in the congregation. A little 14-year-old girl with AIDS is up on 8th Avenue performing lewd acts before dirty old men. She comes to church and keeps saying, “Pastor Dave, I’ve got to get out. I’ve got to get help.”
I’m not about to put up a silly skit and preach a 15-minute message on how to cope to a multitude of people who are dying and going to hell. I tremble at the thought.

Many are being deceived. If they are not awakened, what I warn you about will happen.
I pray that God will keep the Assemblies of God in its original purposes. In New York City, He has proved that the people come to hear a straight gospel, and thousands will come where the Word of God is being preached without compromise and yet with grace. May the young men who are discouraged in the Movement not try for a shortcut but be broken and on their faces before the Lord.
May we get our eyes off growth and onto a new revelation of who Jesus is.

There are so many baby CHRISTIANS in the church that do not read GOD’S WORD and are carried away by FALSE SIGNS AND WONDERS….
My SPIRIT has been grieved over the way they have portrayed the HOLY SPIRIT…..as in barking like a dog, crowing like a rooster…putting gold teeth in peoples mouths…feathers falling from the ceiling…..there have been a few ladies that I know that have gone to the church in Redding, Calif…and are saying that they have gone to the THIRD HEAVEN ( as Todd Bentley said )….
JESUS CHRIST AND THE CROSS…..some where along the way people are looking for other things….there is only one way……JESUS CHRIST..and what HE did for us on the cross..
Myself…some services have been like ROCK CONCERTS…loud….not much WORSHIP….and have been told many times…..We need it for the young adults….

Wow, this is incredible. Thank you for posting this. I am in the process of obtaining my AoG ministers license. I got sucked in and attended a “mega-church/satellite church” for 3 years. It was based in Oklahoma City and of the 3 yrs it went from 5 campuses to in one state to over 13 in atleast 6 different states. I dont think I ever heard them mention a “sin” and I know I dont recall any true conversions. During the time I went, several other “ministries” sprung up from this “church”. One of them was called Oasis, and it took place in a bar. They would meet in a bar on sunday nights, play lots of music, then have a 5-15 minute message. All of the “feel good, pat you on the back” variety. I went once, because I used to hang out with the guy who started it. I didn’t like it. I soon found out why. The male leaders would go out on “Drinking for Jesus” nights and get drunk on friday nights. Thursday nights the ladies would do “Drinking for Jesus”. There ended up being 5 divorces because people would get drunk, and cheat on their wife. Its rediculous.
Not only things like this, and people who think they are ok it saddens me. I feel the cross of Jesus needs to be preached (1 Cor. 1:18) and sin needs to be confronted. I also had a dream that these mega churches and this “prosperity gospel” garbage was a modern day “Tower of Babel”. I pray that the Lord rises up some spiritual leaders who will not compromise the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

I’ve seen everything in my 64 years of being in church all my life. My first bad encounter was when I was around 25 and walked into the church library to find the pastor’s secretary sitting on his lap. Throughout the next 20 years, 3 Assembly of God pastors were in the same kind of trouble. I attended a mega church in the Seattle area that tickled people’s ears and that pastor went down for immorality as board members tried to hide the problem. Pastors are afraid to bring up the porn problem that is great in churches. My (deacon) ex-husband was addicted to porn the 26 years I was married to him and nobody seemed to care that it ruined my marriage. America is in the mess it’s in because we aren’t taking seriously the scripture that says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” God didn’t give that to the sinners, but to His church. Wake up churches of America and get back to the true gospel of the cross and strive to live in obedience to what Jesus has required of us if we are truly going to be his servants. Thank you, David, for being obedient to Christ and having the courage to stand up and give this message that Jesus gave you for our churches.
I have been a part of the Aessmblies of God for 35 years. We need to recognize that this is a multi denominational problem in Christians and churches all across the world. Pastors and ministers and strayed from preaching salvation and embraced the teachings of prosperity and health. What happened to the fired up pastors who put it straight out there, follow Christ or burn in hell. I hear so many people say that it is too harsh and it hurts people feelings. I don’t recall Jesus being concerned about whether or not he offended anyone with his teachings. Christians are going to have to decide if they want to follow God or the world. Anyone who actually studies the Bible (yes, study it not just read it) can spot the signs easily.
We are experiencing a great falling away from the truth of God’s word. Remember what the Bible said in
2 Thesselonians 2:1-3?
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
The answer to all the stress, financial problems, marital problems etc is in the word. People sit back on their pews and wait to be told what to think and what to believe. We thumb our noses at the 10 commandments and change all of the commands God gave us. Rise up as true Christians and go forth into the harvest. You can’t take anything of this world with except your brothers and sisters in Christ. Lay aside all the promises of wealth and material things. They mean nothing but the grace of God is everything.

No, it wasn’t an actual nuclear bomb on 9/11, however, it was the equivalent of a small one going off, ask a decent, knowledable engineer. Prophecies have to be interpreted and backed with scripture. Also, the four horseman of the apocalypse were released on that day coming through the two large mountains. See the end of the Old Testament and read, carefully and slowly. God has been speaking to me and it is in line with what I found today on the internet with other prophets. It is too late for our nation to repent as a nation, only individual repentance. Our sins have reached the heavens. It is incorrect to state that all other nations are more sinful. Our sin is greater than other nations and we have been exporting our perverted, money culture for too long now. Preachers in this country will not stop being sexist, racist, money grabbers (teaching false gospel of prosperity). The preachers are only politicians of country club churches where we go to feel better. America and its churches are in worse shape than we even realize. We are completely numb to sin, we respect nothing and no one, even God and God’s house and our Jewish roots. The Protestants have even gotten worse than some Catholics by this lack of respect. We do not have a “healthy” fear of God. We do not repent or confess nor feel the need to. We think ourselves to be somehow “perfect”, not in need of God’s mercy. How dare we say God bless America? We even tell God what to do. Shame on us! We tolerate every evil, imagineable sin and every evil religion that is a stench in God’s nostrils with mosques, hindu temples and budha temples going up everywhere! What did God think of this when Israel allowed this in the O.T.? If we do not kill our babies in the womb, we make them suffer later, ask any policeman or woman, babies are being killed, hit, kicked, raped, child porno on the net and we do not care. Domestic violence of all types is on the rise, we simply do not care, afterall, it does not affect us. We hate our neighbors, family, everyone, yet all we do is ask God to bless us, give us a job and save our homes. How dare we. We do not defend the weak in this country, but rather prey on them. We flaunt our sin and do not fear God and even dare the Lord to do something about by our actions and are hearts pointing a fist to Him. Woe to America! Woe to the US. Payday has come and it’s only begun.
Yea, these are the days. Blessed are those that will take heed. God bless you Dave, it was revealed to me in 2006, I couldn’t sleep at times. These very accommodating gospels trouble my spirit, it’s just nothing less than denial of our Lord Jesus Christ. May they repent from this deception.
Unfortunately, these gospels are creeping into some of the AOG churches and it’s kinda difficult to show point out these errors to The Elders, more especially when you’re young as I am but God will make a way. I’ve actually realised that one cannot hide behind a denomination, it’s time for us to declare the uncompromised and undiluted Gospel of Jesus Christ.
This has been on my heart for 15 years and no one but no one in the church is aware because they do not and I repeat do not spend time with Jesus in the quiet place. We have a famon in the church. This is no time to play church.We are headed for diaster and the church needs to get serious, the shepherds need to hear the warning of the watchman.

I PREACHED A SERMON IN A CONVENTION IN INDIA ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND STRESSED “NO COMPROMISE TO THE GOSPEL” AND REJECTION OF THE NEW WAVES THAT KEEP COMING IN THE USA PARTICULARLY. The sad truth, that we all see around us. There are so many ‘seeker’ feel good churches, so many that are more interested in how good the music is than showing ‘fear’ of the Lord, and so many that are quick to preach, but quicker to judge.
Most people base their ‘pick’ on what the worship music style is. While music can be used to worship, this is not the reason to pick a church.
Worship is an act of obedience… not a genre. God says redemption is true…but Satan has trapped Christian people into the judgement of others.
People teach their kids to be accepting of all lifestyles, and the church echos this….Basing their pick on who makes them feel good.
The Christian Church is being hit on all sides. Christian marriages are failing at a higher rate than secular. I would say this is a clear indication of the lack of discipleship, and accomidation in the modern church. Men are not taught to be men, and women are not taught to be women of God. This trickles down to our children and so on.
I will add one more thing.
I have had a dream many times over the last several years. Always a bit different, but always the same. The dream involved the destruction of ‘churches’ the buildings and all inside. Some are being burned, some torn down with machines…ect. The people stand and watch…some sobbing….they have just lost everything.
He says be still. This is not my church. You are my church. Be obedient unto me.
Sometimes I will go for months without this dream….but it always comes back.
We need to stay fast as Christians to speak the truth to those who are blind. To answer the call….He desires that none should perish.
We need to pray for our country, our leaders, and our brothers and sisters.
We need to fast for our pastors and church body…that the gospel would be preached from the pulpit, and the He would be honored in the words that are preached.
The time is upon us when many will and can be swayed.
We must encourage those baby Christians to stay in the word and measure what is said against the word.
He has given us His Spirit, we are strong in Him and we are called to make a difference.
Shame on us if we know what is happening and we keep our mouth shut.
One of the things the American Church desperately needs is a revelation of the “beauty of holiness.” Holiness is not merely the absence of sin, darkness and filth, but a true, tangible, glorious aspect of God.
“Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness!
Tremble before Him, all the earth.” (Psalm 96:9)
How refreshing and encouraging to hear all of your comments. It is further proof that the true Word cannot be twisted for us if we will just keep spending time studying the Bible and fasting and on our faces before God, humbled and willing to be obedient to Him.
As my Pastor put it Sunday, the Church has fallen asleep. It is too late to point fingers at the Church as I have done, but point the fingers back at myself. I can only do what I can do – Fast, pray for my family and the body of Christ, and seeks the Lord’s peace again. I believe we can have a personal revival. It is the very nature of God to reward His children whom seek Him with His renewed fresh presence.
Some say there be a huge revival before the return of Jesus, others say a mass exodus or apostacy. I believe scripture may support both. I pray there will be a great awakening again so we can get it right for the Lord by His power.

Actually the visible Church is a big part of the problem.
And yes the change does start in each of us as individuals.
But as long as people will accept the visible Church as it is structured today and refuse to ask for it to change to what Jesus intended for a church body to be or leave it then the visible church will continue to disintegrate into abject apostasy.
Churches today do not reflect how Christ intended the body to function, and its not just a minor issue. It is a serious one.
No where in Scripture does it say that there will be a huge revival of Christianity before Jesus comes back.
What it does say is that apostasy will increase. and that there will be a great falling away. But of those who remain faithful to Christ, within them there will be a “revival” of the power of the Holy Spirit to demonstrate who God is.
But again there will not be a mass movement where a large portion of the world turns to Christ.

I have been a part of the AG all 46 years of my life, I love the AG and they have impacted this world for Jesus Christ but if they do not heed this warning we will no longer exist as a denomination. I just got a letter from Springdale (AG headquarters) asking for money and said that it is the first time in the 100some odd years of our history that they have done this, because they say that the AG is losing members and 12 years after this warning was preached we still have not heeded the warning ,we must get back to preaching that Hell is a real place and repentance, and get back to the old fashion alter call like we use to. This is only happing in the US we just got back from Nicaragua on a MAPS trip and one thing they don’t do is compromise the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I am an AOG Elder and have been very troubled about the Rick Warren Programs that are intering into the AOG church. Small Groups, Celebrate Recovery, Target groups. trying to be like Rick. which is the Gospel of Accomadation.
It is all to grievous to comprehend. We who believed and preached the doctrines of The Assemblies of God in their purity and holiness have been run out in recent years by those who
invaded our churches with a “gospel birthed in hell”—described so perfectly by David Wilkerson in the above sermon.
The outcome of all this? JUDGMENT! Isn’t that where judgement begins? Yes, I am concerned about the wickedness that abounds in the world today, but for YEARS I have been far more concerned about the gospel preached in many A/G Churches today, for it has been TOTALLY ineffectual against the gates of Hell!
There was a time, and how I remember so well as a young child, when NO MATTER what your problem was–just confess it—no condemnation, no judgement—just put it out there—-Holy Ghost filled men and women of God would lay hands on you and the POWER of the Holy Spirit would utterly set you free and if you were willing to live in obedience and discipline of the scriptures and The Spirit of God, you could FOREVER
stay FREE.
We used to invite people from all walks of life who had tried everything to helps themselves to “come here”—-come where
The Spirit of The Living God can make you a new creature in Christ Jesus. That is no longer true of the A/G Churches. As I told my Pastor, “Take the sign down—the transactions of
heaven are no longer available here.”
So, what does that mean. Judgment. This isn’t hard to figure out! No angel has to appear with a message–it is a promise from Christ himself: remember Christ hand NOTHING GOOD to say to the Church at Laodicia. However, one must not be over zealous in “looking at the A/G–leave them to God in prayer—but rather themselves. I cannot change the A/G’s as much as I love what we truly stand for, but I can repent
for my own luke warm ways.
In closing, let me add, for what it may be worth to anyone reading this: Judgment in America will not be abated! It will now continue to our complete and total destruction. Like Paul the Apostle, the ship we are sailing on will be destroyed but we will make it safely to shore—that is to say Heaven.
We do well to press in and stay close to Jesus for truly we hear HIM say: “LOOK UP FOR YOUR REDEMPTION DRAWETH NIGH.’
The mystery of Christ in you, the hope of glory, is not being explained so people will go on after being born again to have Christ formed in them so they will no longer be called little children.
There is a famine for the good word of God and God’s people are perishing for lack of knowledge and the shepherds are responsible and therefore God will remove them from being His Ministers soon. God said His ministers cause His people to err.

For speaking the truth in love! The seeker movement is “the Golden calf” as far as I’m concerned. Jesus always confronted and forgave sin…he never condoned or told anyone to continue in it for their own comfort. I believe His words were something like… “Go and sin NO MORE” and “lest something worse come upon you.”
NOTE: Because of your own sin, not God teaching you a lesson.
However, to do with the “health and wealth” comments… we need to watch we don’t negate the word of God because of those who misuse it. It is God’s will to heal us and prosper us… just read your Bible! However, I am in no way saying he wants us all to be millionaires, He gives more to those who were trustworthy starting with less. If God hated his people having money he never would have made Solomon, Abraham, Jacob and Barnabbas rich. God hates…money having his people…there’s a grave difference. Money isn’t the ROOT OF EVIL…Loving it is!
“The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow to it.” Psalm 10:22 We can’t ignore scriptures like this (and they are many) just cause they don’t fit our personal theology. Theology needs to be formed by scripture, not scripture formed by theology.
Now… In scripture, Jesus NEVER told anyone that he was unwilling to heal them when they asked Him to. I challenge anyone…. really…. find me an instance where He turned someone away and said, “I am not willing.” And He never put sickness on anyone to teach them a lesson. And if anyone needed a lesson it was the Pharisees…yet Jesus made none of them sick…hmmmm. And by the way, don’t forget Jesus only did the will of His Father….GOD. It not God’s will to make people sick, or for them to be sick!!
I personally know 2 people who were diagnosed TERMINAL, but decided to stand on the scripture concerning healing and are alive, well, and baffling doctors to this day! Notice I said STAND on scripture, they never gave up!! Some people say there standing and then give up after praying once or twice and then declare it not to be God’s will cause nothing happened. I personally declared the word of God over myself for a serious and worsening dabilatating conditon no one seemed to be able to diagnose. I stood on God’s promise for a year until it manifested. But I’m walking pain free with full mobility to this day. Our God and Father is Jevovah Rapha… THE LORD GOD WHO HEALS ME!! he as David said, is “The one who brings healing to my flesh and my bones.”
Jesus said, “When you stand praying, believe that you will receive what you are asking for, and you shall.” He was also known for saying crazy things like, “All things (not some things) ARE POSSIBLE to those who believe.” Now he was either telling the truth or He wasn’t. And this headline just in …. GOD CANNOT LIE!
I know there’s alot of whacko’s out there perverting the true Gospel… but don’t lose sight of the character and nature of God revealed in scripture because of their own misguidings.

I MUCH APPRECIATE THIS SERMON. For almost four years since moving to Hollywood CA my husband and I have thirsted for a church that actually moved by the spirit and preached the gospel. Moving here we were christian who desired to grown and take part in the church after many years of sitting on the sidelines. We both work in fashion which I don’t need to tell you is a profession full of ungodliness… so we wanted a strong church family with which to fellowship, reprove us when needed and grow in faith. What we found in LA was hunger. We visited many churches.. stayed in some so long that we gave themm nicknames like “Chruch of the mind” (a church that was sincere, but left no room for the Holy Spirit.. it was all about the latest commentary or study), “In the presence of money” a church with a charismatic x-actor pastor….. who seemed to get his sermons from a box and focused on prosperity… we even went to a church in which we are almost certain the pastor is homosexual and the church itself only acted as a platform for community organizing. Some of these churches we drove far from home to attend. Each time hoping for the water we needed. We started listening to Times Square Church online sermons and even recieving councelling when needed from their prayer counsel.. from 3,000 miles away!!!!! it is a shame and ridiculous when two hungry young christian can’t find a christ centered church near their home. after some time with no church at ll we decided to seek God for a church, but by this time I believe we had both began falling into the lukewarmness of the congregations we had taken part in. Before I knew it partying and lasciviousness had started to creep into my life.. which is not something i ever did before. We made some older christian friends who were equally as lukewarm (always preaching grace and never repentance) That being said, the danger of churches that accomodate is that they accomodate our sinful natures…. Christians in these congreagations may start out right and slowly let sin creep in.. thus, sleeping when our bridegroom comes.
I a happy to say, after both of us, slipping into lukewarmness and sometimes almost returning to the vomit of a sinful lifestyle (God dealing with us the whole time), in a time of repentance we sought the Lord for a chruch and he has led us to a spirit filled one. Our pastor say the word you never hear in most LA area churches – REPENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REPENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To hear these words was a breath of frsh air. We have repented and are back on the right track, but I weep for so many who are fallling away now…. whi have not recieved the Holy Spirit and are sitting in these mega churches being led astray with the gospel of lukewarmness.
Upon my repentance the Lord shared with me (before the economic collapse) tough times were coming. There is a time coming so scary that we must learn to cling to the Lord and his true Gospel. A famine (an actual famine of food …. crop failure) is in our future. I don’t know when but the Lord told me to prepare “as in the days of Noah ” it will be. We prepare by drawing close to him and seeking his instruction. I urge everyone to shed lukewarmness… find fallen and falling Christians who desperately need your help.. find them before it’s too late that they might seek the Lord .. our strong tower and be saved.

This is so wonderful to hear our lord speak to us this means that he loves us very much for loving father will not let his child to wrong when he knows.
The Father will always correct the son and warn him aginst anything bad. So AG members you are very hournerable to the Lord so now it is time for us as christians to respond to the voice of the Lord and repend as a church starting from the top Leaders to the local Brothers and Sisters.

I’ve been Assembly of God all my life. My father who is in
Heaven now was Assembly of God minister almost from the
beginning of the denomination. I too have been greived to
see the decline in our churches. Seeker Friendly churches
are springing up all over with Assembly of God and not
really preaching the Word of God. They don’t call sin, sin or
really tell people what will happen if they do sin. It really
causes me to weep for our denomination.
Thank you for holding up for what is wright even if it is not
popular. We need more people like you and I trust that
our Assemblies of God will again have an awakening of
the Holy Spirit. Blessings to you and Thank you.

thank God for it. It is one of the few Assembly of God churches that I know that is really moving forward.

Thank you David. We were in the AOG church for 33 years and have seen many changes. When we relocated to another city the Lord led us out of the AOG church. I believe many churches have largely lost the gospel message of repentance.(What is it? Why do we need to repent??)
Thank God for this message!!! It’s not just for the assemblies of God, but for all that fear God despite the denomination! It’s time we open our ears for the Spirit and give place to the Word in our hearts. It’s time for us to repent and get back to the roots of the true Gospel. Thanks David.

The Persecuted Church once said to a worker from the Free Church, “You need our faith to know your own!” It is important for you to encounter the Persecuted Church. Get in touch with any ministry that serve the Persecuted Church. And encourage your friends too to encouter them too.
I’m of the belief that God created no church…nd he like no such. at the same time I believe that we ought to serve him as a collective. My point here is that…there’s no church that’s more important or spiritual. we are God’s sheep and belong from his own flock. lets worship Him then tirelesly.

We need to revisit the Protestant Reformation, because the traditions of men–post-1968 traditions, but traditions nonetheless–have once more overridden the Word of God. Having worked overseas and in the US with Muslims who believe that Christians bribe people into converting and encourage lewdness, I find it interesting that the “church” on my block–affiliated with a large nationwide evangelical group–proudly offers weekly cash prizes, cell phone giveaways, and dance contests. It also has its own brand of gang-inspired clothing for girls. The way people worship, and the way they promote their groups, often can tell us more about them than their statements of doctrine. “Cool” Christians may profess to be Bible-believing and fundamentally sound, but a great winnowing is coming, one that will reveal the trendy brand of evangelicalism for what it actually is: an extension of the rebellion of the ’60s using a traditional Christian vocabulary.

It’s too late for the AG. If you can keep from “throwing up”, just attend a few “lectures” at the AG school of ministry and you’ll see for yourself. It’s all about scripture twisting, money, power and domination. They’re modern day Pharisees and money changers. Wolves are in charge and shaping converts to their new “culturally relevant” gospel. If you don’t drink their form of Jonestown koolaide- you’re pruned out. Here’s a warning, if you’re assouciated with the AG- get out, if not, stay out!
so good to know there are many christians like myself who are sick at heart over the decline of the AOG. i was saved in the church and went for 30 yrs. until the church brought in 30 minute “praise”[and dancing]. i have since attended other churches, not finding what i am looking for…….a god fearing,”sin is SIN against God, and punishable by God.

So true. We need to stop feeling we need more numbers, pats on the back, best bulitins, social programs, buildings, etc. Where are the sermons that convict. I don’t want to see adjusted lives or, “sorry they failed” lives. I want to see changed lives and righteous living.

It’s so sad to see that Mr. Wilkerson has died. Unbelievable, really.
I, too, am saddened at the passing of this blessed man of God. He has ministered to me much over the last 40 years or more.
In 1986 I sat in a Conference where David preached prophetically to hundreds (and possibly 1000′s) of Christian leaders (about 5,000 people were in attendance). This dear man of God gave a clear call to repentance to us a Christian leaders and pastors – and a warning of God’s judgment should we not repent. There was very little response to the altar call he gave and I later heard upper level “Christian” leaders ridiculing his message of repentance and judgment. May God have mercy upon us!
I pray that God will raise up others to take his place as a watchman on the wall – a prophet who will proclaim the unadulterated Word of God and the pure word of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I look forward to meeting you in Glory, Brother Dave.

These are many of the reasons I left the AG after being saved as a teen, attending their college in Lakeland, FL, and, being a minister for several years. Even though it was painful at the time, I’m thankful for God’s sovereign hand, his mercy and grace toward me in removing me from the AG.

I live in Springfield MO and have worked several years for the AG and attended a mega church also. I am no longer involved with the AG in any form! Enough said, great sermon! We need revival! Jesus come soon!
I am in an AG church and I see us leaning in the accommodation direction. The loud music is ruining our hearing. I cringe at the young people in their youth service on Wed. night being exposed to this loud music. I went to an AG women’s conference once, yes, just once. The music was so loud I had to wait in the lobby until the message started. I was not alone in that lobby. I have brought this issue up more than once and get slapped down in various ways. It also scares me to see people living in blatant sin, by choice, can serve in various ministries in our church. Without confession, repentance and restoration (go and sin no more) we are not living and growing in the message of Jesus.
I am also an ex AOG member! I stopped going not so much because of the loud music but because the music has taken the place of the “Holy Spirit” moving during the service! Just no more “time” for that! How sad!

I thank God for this prophesy because it is the real picture of the modern gospel, designed to accommodate Satanic desires. They are devaluing the word of God and misleading people who are supposed to come to God. the word of God is now been replaced by our programmes and have little time for God’s word, especially money.

I am fearful of where the church is going! I only go to the AOG because its down the road from me and as I am disabled its easy access etc We have started changing in the UK. No one wears suits, it’s changing but at the moment I like the Pastor and the music and we have other churches joining us, which is great. The music is louder than usual when we all meet together but when it’s just us its still the same. I do NOT want to be DECEIVED I ask The Holy Spirit to guide me. I want the message of the cross and Jesus Christ crucified. No wonder Jesus said when I com back will I find faith on the earth!
